Transformer Bushings

Imagine a live, high-voltage wire that needs to pass straight through a grounded steel tank wall to reach the outside world, without arcing into the metal the instant it makes contact, similar to how a pipe passing through a boat's hull needs a special fitting to keep water out, except here what has to be kept out is electricity rather than water. A bushing is that fitting, an insulated, usually ceramic or composite component that lets a transformer's internal high-voltage lead pass safely through its grounded tank wall to the external connections.

This is a useful illustration of how a shortage can hide inside an already-scarce product's own supply chain, expanding transformer core and winding manufacturing capacity, as several Indian manufacturers covered elsewhere on this site have done, does not automatically resolve a bottleneck sitting one layer further down in a smaller, less visible component that the finished product cannot ship without.
