PM Gati Shakti

Imagine several government departments each planning to dig up the same road independently, one for water pipes, another for telecom cables, another for a new gas line, each unaware of the other's plans, resulting in the same stretch of road being dug up three separate times within a year. PM Gati Shakti exists specifically to prevent that kind of costly, uncoordinated chaos.

It is a national master planning platform that maps every infrastructure project, roads, railways, ports, power lines, pipelines, across every ministry and state, onto a single digital layer, so planners across departments can see what is already being built or planned before starting a new project of their own. The explicit goal is to cut planning delays and duplicated effort by making inter departmental coordination genuinely visible rather than dependent on informal contact between officials.

Gati Shakti is less a scheme with its own budget and more an operating system sitting underneath India's entire infrastructure programme, and it is frequently cited alongside the National Logistics Policy as part of the same broader push to bring India's notoriously high logistics costs down toward global benchmarks.
