Multimodal Logistics Park

Imagine an airport, except instead of passengers switching between planes, it is cargo switching between trucks, trains and sometimes barges, all within one large, well organised facility rather than scattered across separate, poorly connected yards across a city. That is essentially what a Multimodal Logistics Park is designed to be.

An MMLP is a large hub combining warehousing, cargo handling and the physical infrastructure to transfer freight efficiently between road, rail and sometimes waterway transport, all in one location. By concentrating this transfer activity in a single, well designed facility rather than leaving it fragmented, MMLPs cut the time and cost typically lost when a shipment moves between different modes of transport at multiple separate, inefficient points.

MMLPs are a core physical building block of the National Logistics Policy's ambitions, since cheaper, faster mode switching is exactly what allows a shipper to combine the cost advantage of rail for long distances with the flexibility of road for the final, local delivery leg, rather than being forced to choose one mode for an entire journey.
